General Motors India will recall 114,000 of its multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera over emissions and specifications issues.
In one of the biggest vehicle recalls in the country, the carmaker will recall Chevrolet Tavera BS3 (2.5L variant) and BS4 (2.0L variant) manufactured between 2005 and 2013.
GM India, which operates in the country through a partnership between Detroit-based General Motors and China's SAIC, said in a statement that it has informed the Indian authorities of an emissions issue involving the Tavera BSIII and an issue with the Tavera BSIV meeting certain specifications..
The carmaker said that the issues are not safety related.
GM said it will notify customers how and when to bring in their vehicles for service, which will be done free of cost.
"Our customers are at the centre of everything we do. Exceeding their expectations begins with designing, building and selling the worlds best vehicles that endure over time," said, Lowell Paddock, GM India president and managing director.
The biggest recall prior to this was made by Maruti Suzuki India, which in 2010 recalled one lakh units of A-Star hatchback model over defective fuel pump. (See: Maruti Suzuki to recall 1 lakh A stars)
