Google acquires mobile app Quickoffice

Global internet giant Google Inc is buying leading mobile office application maker Quickoffice Inc, in a move that will beef up its competition with software behemoth Microsoft, which is planning to take its Office suite to tablets.
The acquisition comes just on the heels of Google's purchase of social platform site Meebo Inc that helps online publishers connect their websites with social network sites. (See: Google acquires startup social platform site Meebo Inc)
Google's engineering director Alan Warren said in the company's blog, "Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device."
''Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we'll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our apps product suite,'' Warren added.
The financial terms of the transaction have not been revealed.
Plano, Texas-based Quickoffice is a world leader in mobile office solutions. The suite has been installed in over 300 million devices in more than 180 countries.
