HC cancels land acquisition for RNRL's Dadri mega power project
04 Dec 2009
The Allahabad high court today quashed the acquisition of land by Anil Ambani-led Reliance Natural Resources Ltd (RNRL) for the ambitious mega power project at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.
The court gave the decision on a case filed by a group of farmers whose land was acquired using emergency powers for setting up the 10,000 MW gas-based power project.
Farmers, protesting under the banner of 'Sahyog Society' have been demanding that the land acquired after giving megre compensation, be given back to them, as it was their only source of income.
For the Anil Ambani group, which locked in a bitter legal battle against the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries over the price and quantity of natural gas to be supplied to the Dadri mega power project, the court decision comes as a further set-back in the whole process.
Anil Ambai has all the while been arguing in the Mumbai high court and in the Supreme Court that the Dadri power project is being held up for want of an assurance on gas supplies.
RNRL had entered into a state support agreement (SSA) with the UP government for the project, to be built at Dadri in Ghaziabad, part of the National Capital Region.
