Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has announced temporarily suspension of all manufacturing activities at its five plants in India, including its Global Parts Center (GPC), as the country combats a second wave of Covid-19.
Hero MotoCorp has plants in Haridwar (Uttarkhand), Dharuhera (Haryana), Gurgaon (Haryana), Neemrana (Rajasthan) and Vadodara (Gujarat), with a cumulative capacity of 9.8 million units per annum.
All these plants will remain shut for four days, in a staggered manner between 22 April and 1 May, depending on the local scenario.
The company will utilise these shut down days for maintenance
“The company will utilise these shut-down days to carry out necessary maintenance work in the manufacturing plants. The shutdown will not impact the company’s ability to meet the demand, which has been impacted due to localised shutdowns in many states and production loss will be compensated during the remainder of the quarter. All plants will resume normal operations post this short shutdown period. All corporate offices of the company are already in `Work from Home’ (WFH) mode and very limited staff are in offices on rotation basis for continuity of essential services,” Hero MotoCorp stated in a release.

The announcement comes even as the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has hit India hard, with India now having more than 20 lakh officially recorded active cases of Covid-19.
