Historian Ramchandra Guha accuses IndiGo of misbehaving multiple times
27 Nov 2017
Noted historian Ramachandra Guha took to Twitter to complain of "unprovoked rudeness" by staff of low-cost carrier IndiGo.
"Three times this time, I have been subject to unprovoked rudeness by an @IndiGo6E staffer. Different people, different airports, same airline. Absolutely shocking," Guha tweeted.
A further tweet read, ''I don't normally use Twitter as a means of consumer redressal, but since the same airline misbehaved thrice in a single week I had to. Friends and family also confirm that rudeness has become a habit with @IndiGo6E.''
Details of the alleged rude behaviour are not known, as Guha did not say what exactly had miffed him, and apparently no one in the media seems to have thought of asking.
IndiGo Airlines tweeted in reply, "The case has been investigated with our team and we do believe that the matter could have been handled in better manner. We try to serve our customers in the best possible manner, however, we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to the passenger."
IndiGo has been in several similar incidents of high-handed behaviour lately. Just a few days ago two of the airline's staff members were accused of misbehaving with a woman passenger at the Guwahati airport. IndiGo then suspended both the employees.
The incident took place on 19 November, when lawyer Krishna Sarma's mobile phone was snatched by a staff member, who then tried to delete a few images that the passenger had clicked.
"In fact, we have kept her informed of the immediate steps that IndiGo has taken following her (Sarma's) complaint," the airlines said in a statement, according to the Press Trust of India.
The budget airline also made news for assaulting a passenger at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi recently.
The passenger, 59-year-old Rajeev Katyal, got into an argument with ground personnel after he deplaned from a flight and was waiting for the bus. He was then abused and manhandled, and the airlines' ground staff then dragged him on the tarmac.
The airlines apologised to the passenger and promised action against the staffers after a video of the incident went viral on social media (See: Aviation minister seeks report after IndiGo staff manhandle passenger).
