Indian IT training market grows 46 per cent YoY at Rs2,135 crore in 2006-07

New Delhi: Global talent development corporation, NIIT, has strengthened its leadership position in the Indian IT training market. With revenues of Rs795 crore, up 77 per cent YoY in FY 2006-07, NIIT has become twice the size of next six training companies combined.

"We are pleased to be No.1 yet again," said Vijay K Thadani, chief executive officer, NIIT. "The strong growth in revenue reflects the wide acceptance of the GNIIT and Edgeineers programmes by the students and industry, alike. NIIT will continue the growth momentum through new offerings, enhanced capacity and global partnerships," Thadani added.

The Indian IT training market recorded a 46-per cent YoY growth with revenues of Rs2,135 Crore in 2006-07, reports leading IT magazine Dataquest.

The growth in hiring by IT companies, increasing requirement for newer skill-sets and the rapid change in technology, continued to spur the Individual Training segment.

NIIT's flagship GNIIT programme recorded an increase of 112 per cent YoY, reports Dataquest. To cater to the manpower needs of ICT industry, NIIT targeted engineering students and launched 'NIIT Edgeineers' series to make them 'job-ready'.

The report also highlights the need for skilled manpower in the Infrastructure Management space. During the period, NIIT also introduced its industry-endorsed NetworkLABS curriculum to help build skilled manpower for this segment.

According to the report, the corporate training business contributed 64 per cent of the total training market. With the added strength of Element K, and new initiatives such as NIIT Litmus, NIIT's corporate learning business witnessed strong growth from the developed countries such as the US.

As part of the corporate training initiative, NIIT recently announced its partnership with technology giant Intel to launch multi-core training curriculum, globally. The curriculum has been developed jointly and will be deployed by NIIT using its global delivery capability for the benefit of the software developer community.
