Kochi: Infosys Technologies is planning to invest about Rs 300 crore for setting up a development centre in Kerala, either in Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram.
The implementing agency will be the Kerala State IT Mission. The centre is expected to offer employment to around 1,500 engineers. Initially, about Rs 18 crore may be committed and about 600 jobs offered.
Once the location is identified, it would take just four to five months to set up the centre and get it on stream.
The Technopark campus at Akkulam in Thiruvananthapuram, the Kinfra Park at Kakkanad here and the property owned by Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore at Ambalamugal are among the probable locations.
Kochi offers a greater advantage with a higher bandwidth capability due to the international submarine cable landings of SEA-ME-WE 3 and SAFE. Currently the annual lease charge for a 2-mobs connection is just Rs 28 lakh in Kochi. This could augur major savings for IT-enabled services companies if located in Kochi.
