Infosys Ltd on Sunday announced plans to expand its presence in Noida, Uttar Pradesh with the commencement of work on its new software development, with an initial investment of about Rs750 crore ($109 million).
Infosys, India’s second-biggest software services exporter, said the 2.7 million square feet facility would be able to accommodate 5,000 staff.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated Infosys’ upcoming facility as part of the ‘Rising UP, Powering New India’ event in Lucknow, aimed at boosting infrastructural capabilities in Uttar Pradesh.
“The state-of-the-art project, for which the UP government has allocated 27.5 acres of land in Sector-85, Noida, will be one the most sustainable projects in the region, with extensive efforts to minimize the facility’s carbon footprint by leveraging innovation and technology in the construction process,” Infosys stated in a release.
Infosys has appointed RSP Design Consultants from Singapore for the project’s design, which aims to achieve a LEED Platinum rating, the highest level of certification for a green building, given by the US Green Building Council.
The construction will begin as soon as the government approval is received.
“The facility is a critical part of our effort to enhance our presence in the national capital region and leverage the talent pool available in this market,” the release quoted chief executive officer Salil Parekh as saying.
The national capital region is a rapidly urbanising area that encompasses New Delhi and its suburbs and is one third the size of New York state, but houses 2.5 times more people. Noida is about 26 kilometres (16 miles) from New Delhi.
