Kerala state bans two batches of Cadbury's, Nestle chocolates

The Kerala state government has banned two batches of Cadbury's Dairy Milk and Nestle in Kerala with immediate effect following the finding of live worms in the chocolate bars of the leading companies.
"We have issued directions to confiscate all the chocolate bars of two batches produced in June this year," says director of health services V K Rajan.
Stating that the two batches of chocolates were banned under Rule 7(4) of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, he says the two companies will also be directed to withdraw the stock from markets all over the state.
Food inspectors have been directed to seize all the remaining chocolate bars in the two particular batches. Rajan says the action was taken following the complaints received from two persons in Thiruvananthapuram.
The birthday party of Jeo Vincent, the chief executive of a management consultancy firm in Thiruvananthapuram, was spoiled on Friday when he found that several of the 35 bars of chocolate he had bought for presenting to his office colleagues were infested with worms.
Pale brownish worms were found peering out of tiny holes when the foil wrappers were removed, he complained to the chief food inspector.
Rajan says directions will be issued to shop owners for storing sweet and milk-based products in refrigerators.
