KPMG to expand Indian operations

Mumbai: KPMG, the Netherlands-based global consultancy and accounting firm, plans to expand its presence in India in a big way and increase its headcount in the country.

KPMG already has offices in Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, from where it provides KPMG's services like audit, corporate finance, corporate recovery, forensic, tax, people services, transaction services, and risk advisory.

The firm is taking India seriously as a lot of its clients are making significant investments in the Indian market. Acccording to Egidio Zarrella, global partner in charge, KPMG, the new investments in to India are across various industry verticals like financial services, communications, consumer industry markets.

He says to keep pace with the increasing work opportunities arising from these investment, KPMG would also increase its headcount and by the end of 2007 it will have over 3,000 people, which would be scaled up to 45-50 per cent. "We will make substantial investment in the next two years," Zarrella added.

Explaining the reason for the spurt in interest in India from overseas businesses, Zarella said the country was not only low-cost, but also because of its large pool of young talent and the exponential growth of the Indian middle class with rising purchasing power.
