Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is all set to win a Rs3,338 crore contract for a railway project that connects Rishikesh and Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand, with the company emerging as the lowest bidder.
L&T Construction quoted the lowest amount of Rs3,337.60 crore, followed by Gulermark with a bid of Rs3,483.34 crore, Afcons Infrastructure with Rs3,790.80 crore, and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure (MEIL) with a bid of Rs4,019.94 crore.
The 125 km long railway line project will provide connectivity between Rishikesh and Karnaprayag and give a boost to the tourism sector by easing the access to pilgrimage centres of Uttarakhand.
Being a geologically difficult terrain for project execution, more than 84 per cent of this railway project will consist of tunnels and bridges.
Being executed by state-owned Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, the project is slated to be completed within five years.
A 15.1 km tunnel, including a 240 meter embankment for Devprayag station and a 300 metre embankment at Janasu along with a minor bridge are also part of the project.
