Sports utility vehicle maker Mahindra and Mahindra today launched the NuvoSport, the utility vehicle maker's latest SUV, priced at Rs7.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane) for the base variant, as it bids to give a further boost to its leadership position in the UV segment.

Although the new model is a facelift for Mahindra's Quanto, the latest sub-compact SUV comes as a completely new car. NuvoSport shares its platform with Mahindra Scorpio. It also comes loaded with a wide array of changes and upgrades, including a refreshed design and new features.

The NuvoSport, which has a sporty styling and bold stance, is priced at Rs7.35 lakh (ex-showroom Thane) for the base N4 variant. It is being made available at Mahindra dealerships across India from today, the company said in a release.

The new model boasts of an autoSHIFT (AMT) technology, the same New Generation Platform as Scorpio, a 1.5-litre mHawk100 diesel engine that delivers 74.6 kW (100 bhp) of power and best in class torque of 240 Nm, best in class width and height among compact SUVs, flexible 5+2 seating, a unique adjustable and reclining second row, plush dual tone interiors, faux leather upholstery, 15.75cm (6.2'') touchscreen infotainment system, ABS with EBD and dual airbags available right from the base variant as optional and standard from the mid variant.

''While our current SUV portfolio is quite comprehensive, we identified a need gap where consumers are looking for a true blue SUV that will enable their active lifestyles. The launch of the NuvoSport with its unique positioning encourages consumers to go out and fulfil their bucket lists in the area of adventure sports. We are confident the NuvoSport will emerge as yet another winner from our stable,'' Pravin Shah, president and chief executive of Mahindra and Mahindra, said while speaking at the launch.

The NuvoSport is available in 6 variants N4, N6 and N8 (N6 and N8 are available with optional AMT versions and the N4 will come with optional dual airbags and ABS with EBD). It comes in 6 attractive shades of Molten Red, Rust Orange, Diamond White, Regal Blue, Mist Silver and Fiery Black.

While NuvoSport's looks similar to Mahindra Quanto, it gets a completely refurbished, and muscular, front fascia. It has a redesigned bumper and gets a faux skid plate, angular head-lamps, LED DRLs, and a chunky black grille.

The sides remain largely the same save for the revised ORVMs, black side cladding and new alloy wheels. The blackened D-pillars come with integrated vertical tail lamps, whereas the externally mounted spare wheel is retained but gets a new cover. The SUV has also grown taller by 10mm, improving cabin space.

The Mahindra NuvoSport uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder mHawk diesel mill tuned to produce 100bhp of power at 3750rpm and a peak torque of 240Nm between 1600-2800rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and also comes with the optional 5-speed AMT unit.

Like the KUV100, Mahindra has equipped the NuvoSport with Power and Eco modes, with the latter getting the power output dropped to 71.6bhp at 3250rpm and 180Nm of torque between 1600-2100rpm. The SUV returns an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 17.45Km per litre.
