Maruti 800, exports pull down Maruti''s April sales

Chennai: A 38 per cent slump in sales of Maruti 800 model and 58 per cent decline in exports have put a break on Maruti Udyog Limited's speed this April. The company sold 6,910 Maruti 800s and exported 1,218 units during April 2005 as against 11,097 units and 2,910 units respectively during the corresponding month in 2004.
The combined sales of Wagon-R, Alto and Zen increased by 2,874 units to 22,280 in April. Maruti's Baleno model showed a sudden 78 per cent growth in sales to 2,331 units as against 1,313 units sold in April 2004. The next highest sales growth was in the multi utility vehicle models — Gypsy and Vitara. The company sold 613 units this April as against 406 units in April 2004.
Overall the company sold in April 39,190 units as against 39,838 units showing a negative growth by 4 per cent.
Meanwhile the company has announced a price hike ranging from 0.15 per cent to 0.72 per cent across the models due to the increase in the input costs.
