Maruti resumes production at Gurgaon, Manesar
13 Jun 2016
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country's largest car-maker, has resumed production at its Manesar and Gurgaon manufacturing units after the maintenance closure from 6 to 11 June.
"Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) resumed production on Monday morning after the maintenance closure," the company stated in a release.
Maruti had suspended operations at its Manesar and Gurgaon plants for regular maintenance from 6 June. The maintenance interval, which was earlier scheduled from 27 June to 2 July, was later advanced by a week for arranging supply of components from Subros Limited and other sources, the company stated.
The maintenance closure had to be advanced by three weeks due to a fire incident that took place at Subros' Manesar plant on 29 May, after which the supply of car AC components was temporarily halted, it added.
On an average, Maruti produces around 5,000 cars a day from its plants. The unscheduled closure could reflect in the company's June sales figures.
Subros Limited, an auto components maker, supplies about 60 per cent of Maruti Suzuki's total air-conditioning units. Subros is trying to gather supplies for Maruti from its other plants after the damage to its Manesar plant.
Production halt at both the plants in Haryana is likely to affect the delivery of the company's current best-selling models like the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno. Both the models of Maruti Suzuki already have a waiting period of over six months and this is likely to be extended. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the compact SUV has garnered over 75,000 bookings in the country, while the Baleno breached one lakh booking threshold in March.
