Maruti Suzuki announces big pay hike for its Gurgaon workers

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest carmaker, today announced a Rs18,000, or 60 per cent, increase in the monthly wages of all permanent employees at its Gurgaon facility, spread over a period of three years.
''On an average salaries will go up by Rs18,000 per month,'' said Kuldeep Janghu, general secretary, Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union.
The average salary of workers at Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon facility ranges between Rs35,000 and Rs39, 500 per month currently.
Workers will get 80 per cent or around Rs14,400 of the Rs18,000 increment in the first year itself, which would take their average salary to around Rs53,000 per month.
The wage settlement, coning after a year disrupted by labour unrests, will benefit 2,032 permanent workers at MSIL's Gurgaon unit.
The 3-year wage settlement with its Gurgaon factory workers entitles the employees to a host of other benefits, including interest-free personal loans, better medical cover for parents, a scheme for housing and flexible dearness allowance.
