Maruti Suzuki hikes car prices; opens bookings for revamped Alto 800

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country's largest carmaker today announced an across-the board increase in the prices of its passenger vehicles varying from Rs2,500 to Rs5,250 with immediate effect.
Maruti Suzuki, meanwhile, also started pre-launch bookings for the revamped version of its popular Alto 800 model.
The company said the hike is meant to offset the rising input costs, mainly due to the adverse impact of foreign exchange fluctuations.
''The average hike in the price across models is around 1 per cent and the range will be between Rs2,500 and Rs5,250,'' a company spokesperson said.
Maruti Suzuki, majority owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, continues to import some components and spares for its Indian car models and the falling rupee has increased the import costs for the company.
Other foreign carmakers in India like Honda Motor Co, Toyota Kirlioskar Motors, General Motors and Audi India have also increased car prices in recent weeks due to rising costs.
