Microsoft adds voice messaging support in Skype iPhone app version 5.2
08 Jul 2014
Microsoft has reincorporated support for voice messaging and profiles in its latest update (version 5.2) for its iPhone app. The features had been removed by the company with its launch of Skype 5.0, 'Remastered for iPhone', last month.
Microsoft has now brought back the features in Skype 5.2 on user feedback. In its blog post the company wrote, "We have been reading and listening to your feedback ever since we launched the new remastered Skype for iPhone and have been hard at work incorporating your suggestions."
The features on the iPhone app are not different for Skype users on Android.
Skype 5.2 for iPhone allows users to send and receive a new voice message, which would appear in the conversation. The profile feature could be used for access from the menu and it allows users to offer details like Skype name, birthday, location and more.
Further, to initiate a one-to-one conversation, users can tap on the contact name in the header and for adding more participants to an existing conversation, users can go to the menu and then tap on the 'Add participants' option.
Features from earlier version Skype 5.1 have also been included in Skype 5.2 by the company, like the ability to delete a conversation, edit a message and a 'Skype'-only contact filter.
According to the company it had rewritten Skype 5.0 "from the ground up," and claims it was "over 5 times faster than the old version." The Skype 5.0 UI was revamped for consistency with the Android and Windows Phone devices. It had removed the classic tab bar and had included large and colourful buttons to Skype 5.0 which too are retained in Skype 5.2.
According to commentators the update focused on fixing bugs within the programme as also small usability updates.
Voice message updates would now show up in users' conversation history and can be played by tapping on them.
Users can now view contact profiles by tapping on a contact on their people list and selecting the menu button. Users would be able to see their mood, Skype name, birthday, location and more.
Skype 5.2 for iPhone had been added to the App Store for user download. Users can help Microsoft improve Skype by posting their comments on the Skype Community forum.
