Midas Communication to launch messaging terminal

Chennai: The city based telecom technology company Midas Communication Technologies P Ltd will soon launch a low cost multi functional messaging terminal called MeTel.
To be priced around Rs.2,000 MeTel is capable of performing the following functions, sending email, short messaging service (SMS), chat, limited browsing and also meter calls. According to Midas officials the equipment is ideal for homes, small offices, shops and public call offices. The equipment also has the caller line identification facility.
According to research, 85 per cent of those who connect to the worldwide web do that to check their mails. And this low cost equipment is ideal for that.
The MeTel equipment is designed to allow flexible network configurations. It could be used as a stand alone communication tool, as a single unit. Or several MeTels could be be connected on Ethernet and all connected to the same outdoor unit. A personal computer (PC) can also be connected to MeTel to provide a 35 kbps internet connection as an option. Midas is in the process of setting right the initial software glitches before it could take up commercial production.
