Moser Baer launches `Knight' USB flash drives

After launching Micro SD cards in January, Moser Baer India Ltd today announced the expansion of its storage devises portfolio with the introduction of `Knight' USB flash drives.
In a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Moser Baer, already the world's second-largest manufacturer of optical media products, described the addition of the flsh-drives as "the next step to innovation," for the company.
With this, Moser Baer has become the first company in India and among a select few worldwide to offer a comprehensive suit of storage solutions.
Early this year, Moser Baer set up an additional solid-state media-manufacturing unit in Noida, in the National Capital Region. The facility, with an annual capacity of 24 million products, has scope for further expansion.
With storage capacity ranging from 1GB to 64GB, Moser Baer offers a range of solid-state devices that meet storage requirements of all consumer segments.
The state-of-the-art NCR manufacturing facility has a unique module that enables all digital content - in audio, visual or data presentation format - to be pre-loaded into the solid state media products. The high-end 32GB product can store over 6,500 songs or more than 20 films in standard definition format, the company said.
The market for USB Flash and Micro SD cards is expected to grow at over 30 per cent in India this year. The popularity of solid-state drives is on the rise because of their performance advantages over hard disk drives, the release said.
Micro SD cards are mainly used in mobile phones. With mobile phone use in India rising at a phenomenal ten million new connections a month, the market Micro SD cards is expected to increase at a fast pace, while the consumers' interest in portable applications will drive up demand for USB devices.
