Motorola mobility successfully tests IPv6 with Telenet
23 Aug 2011
Motorola Mobility, Inc and Telenet have successfully tested and evaluated the first phase of the IPv6 features of Motorola's BSR 64000 cable modem termination system (CMTS). As IPv4 addresses are quickly running out it is important for operators to be able to implement IPv6 to expand their IP services capabilities. IPv6 allows operators like Telenet to offer IP services to a growing number of consumer devices including smartphones, tablets; Internet-enabled gaming consoles and TVs, and home security and monitoring applications.
The tests demonstrated the IPv6 capabilities of the Motorola BSR 64000, currently deployed across Belgium by Telenet to deliver its residential broadband and video services. The lab evaluation included end-to-end system testing in conjunction with Telenet's IP backbone and their provisioning system to enable IPv6 addressing for cable modems and consumer premise equipment.
Furthermore, using this setup, Motorola supported Telenet in managing an IPv6 ecosystem, which allowed the operator to test features and develop the experience needed to support a graceful IPv6 migration.
"Telenet and Motorola have teamed together on many occasions to test and prove new and complex technology and capabilities such as IPv6", commented Nick De Jonghe, manager network strategy and architecture, Telenet."We are confident that the combination of Motorola's continued CMTS innovation and Telenet's desire to provide the most advanced services available to its subscribers, will result in a successful IPv6 field-trial, planned for later this year. Today's announcement represents yet another successful test and evaluation of the BSR 64000 features, this time IPv6, which is critical to expanding our IP services portfolio."
"Telenet has always been at the forefront of new technology. This successful test of our BSR 64000 IPv6 features provides Telenet the confidence they and any operator needs to deploy advanced IP services,†said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Network Infrastructure Solutions, Motorola Mobility. "With our recent CMTS innovations coupled with this successful IPv6 test at Telenet, we are demonstrating how the BSR 64000 continues to evolve to enable our customers to expand their service offerings."
