Mumbai: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd has started basic fixed line, fixed wireless, pre and post-paid mobile and ILD services in Mauritius. MTNL is the second operator in Mauritius.

This is the government owned MTNL''s second overseas venture after Nepal.

Cellular services were the last introduction, which it took across Mauritius on December 15, after a soft launch some months earlier.

In Nepal MTNL provides WLL CDMA based mobile and ILD services together with Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd, Videsh Sanchar Nigam and a local Nepali company in a joint venture called United Telecom.

The company had earmarked an investment of Rs100 crore for rolling out networks in Mauritius.
