MTNL to provide electric cars to maintenance teams

New Delhi: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) today that its technical teams will now drive Reva electrical cars across delhi to carry out maintenance of its telecom network.
With the procurement its new fleet of Reva cars, MTNL has become the first state-owned enterprise to demonstrate its commitment to sustaining a pollution free environment and balanced ecosystem.
The first batch of REVAs was flagged off by S P Pachauri, director (human resources), MTNL Board, at a function held at K L Bhawan today. ''We are committed towards saving the environment from the irreversible effects of harmful vehicular emissions," he said.
Pachauri added, "Electric Vehicles are the most convenient and sustainable solution to the rapidly growing urban transport system. As the Reva is compact, very easy to drive and ideal for ''stop-start'' traffic conditions, it will enable our technical support teams to reach destinations on time and through even the most crowded conditions''.
According to S M Talwar, Executive director (MTNL), the initiative will not only help in saving the environment, but shall also help MTNL in saving on transport costs as the running costs of Reva is as low as 40 paise / km compared to Rs. 2.50 / km for a small diesel car.
Chetan Maini, deputy chairman and chief technical officer, REVA Electric Car Company Private Limited, said, ''We are glad that more and more state-owned enterprises are getting environmentally conscious. We are happy to provide our cars to MTNL and hope that other such public sector companies take a cue from this initiative and work towards making our planet cleaner and greener.''
