Chennai: Maruti Udyog (MUL), India's leading carmaker, clarifies that there is no plan to phase out its popular model, the Maruti Esteem, next year.

Reacting to certain news reports to that effect, the company says it will work on introducing new models without replacing the Esteem next year.

According to a statement issued by MUL, the reports on the replacement of the Esteem originated out of Japan and quoted a senior official in Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), the parent company.

The Indian company states that SMC has denied the statements attributed to the officials in the report.
