Nissan Motor Co. said today that it will recall about 540,000 vehicles globally, for problems related with brake pedal pins and faulty fuel gauges.

Nissan, Japan's third-largest car manufacturer will be recalling 539,864 trucks, sport-utility vehicles and mini vans in North America and some Asian and European markets after having issued a recall for 76,415 vehicles last week.

The latest recall affects Nissan Titan pickup trucks, Armada and Infiniti QX56 sport utility vehicles and Quest minivans built between 2008 and 2010.

The recall will be made in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia and Taiwan.

Nishi-ku, Yokohama-based Nissan said the brake pins can partially come loose and cause a loss of normal braking ability, while faulty gas gauges can display an incorrect amount of fuel left in the tank when it is in fact empty.

Nissan also said it would fix faulty fuel gauges in the 2005-2008 models of Titans, Armadas and QX56s, as well as certain Frontier pickups and Pathfinder and Xterra SUVs manufactured between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008.

Nissan like General Motors, which issued a recall of 1.3 million vehicle yesterday over power steering problems, (See: GM blames Toyota for recall of 1.3 million GM vehicles for power steering failure) blamed the supplier of the brake pedal pins for the "manufacturing error."
