Nissan Motor Co has unveiled its all-new global sedan at the 8th International Automobile Exhibition in China. The car, which is expected to be introduced in India in the second of 2011, will be built on Nissan's 'V' platform. The sedan is to open for sale in China in January 2011.

Though the company has not yet decided on a name for the car for the Indian market, in China it will be known as the 'Sunny', a popular Nissan entry level sedan name with a strong link to the company. Nissan aims to sell the car in markets across 170 countries.

The Indian version of the global sedan will roll out of Nissan's Indian facility located at Oragadam near Chennai. Nissan considers India as an important market and is looking to introduce products across various categories.

The Nissan Micra has been well received in the most intensely competitive market segment in India and now Nissan is gearing up to gain a fair market share in the entry-level family sedan category as well.

Speaking about the new car, Kiminobu Tokuyama, managing director & CEO, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd (NMIPL) said: "Following the success of our first locally made car -the Nissan Micra, we are happy to reveal the first visuals of the second car to be produced in India. We are confident that the "New Global Sedan", which is also based on the versatile 'V' platform, will delight the discerning Indian customers. The model will be launched in India in the second half of 2011."

Sunny, says analysts, is a versatile family sedan that combines dynamic styling, high fuel efficiency and comfort and may be expected to especially suit young families. The Sunny has been designed to offer a high level of occupant comfort as well, they say

However, engine specifications may be different for India and a diesel offering may also be expected they add.

The Sunny has MacPherson struts for the front suspension and a torsion beam for the rear suspension, which makes for agile driving at low speeds, and steady, stable driving at higher speeds.
