Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy, seeking bail for dealing with potential buyers of his London and New York properties, has instead been granted the use the conference room in Tihar Jail along with facilities to negotiate with buyers by the Supreme Court.
Roy needs to sell his luxury hotels in New York and London to raise the Rs10,000 crore demanded by the apex court before he can be granted bail.
On Roy's request for Wi-Fi facilities, a bench headed by Justice T S Thakur asked him to give details of the gadgets he needed for his negotiations, like phones and computers.
The court posted the case for passing an order for Friday after Roy provides the details.
The court had on 25 July asked the Delhi government to explore a venue within the jail complex where Roy could hold negotiations with buyers.
The Delhi government suggested that Roy can hold consultations either in the conference room or the guest house within the jail complex with a limitation on visitors.
The SC had earlier refused to release Roy on interim bail or parole but had allowed him to sell his luxury hotels in New York and London.
The court had also appointed senior advocate Shekhar Naphade as amicus curiae to assist it in dealing with the case, in which the group is supposed to pay around Rs37,000 crore to wind up the proceedings.
