Nokia still leads the market in India

New Delhi: Despite declining sales, Finnish mobile handset maker Nokia continues to maintain its leadership in the Indian handset market with a market share of 39 per cent and revenues of Rs12,929 crore for the period 2010-11.
However, the company registered a meagre 0.2 per cent growth over the previous year, says a market survey conducted by media firm, Voice & Data.
According to the survey, revenues for the Indian mobile handset market for 2010-11 grew 15 per cent, to Rs33,171 crore, up from Rs28,897 crore from the previous year.
The survey covered all mobile handset companies - multi-national and domestic - doing business in India and across categories, such as feature phones, multimedia phones, enterprise phones and smartphones.
According to the survey, Nokia continued to maintain its leadership in the market with revenues of Rs12,929 crore, which was a nominal improvement of a little over 0.2 per cent compared to previous year's revenues of Rs12,900 crore.
The report attributes Nokia's loss of market share to a lack of dual-SIM phones in its portfolio.
