Porsche introduces new 911 Targa models

Porsche Cars has announced details of the new 911 Targa 4 and 4S, the latest new-generation 911 cars. The new Targa models will be equipped with direct fuel injection (DFI) and the fast-shifting Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) - or double-clutch gearbox - replacing the optional Tiptronic S, to improve both performance and economy ratings.
The Targa 4 version is powered by a 3.6-litre flat-six engine developing maximum output of 345 bhp and producing a top speed of 176 mph. The power unit featured in the Targa 4S variant displaces 3.8-litres, developing maximum output of 385 bhp, and accelerates to a top speed of 185 mph.
The salient feature of the 911 Targa is the square metre glass roof made up of two segments; the sliding roof above the occupants and the versatile top-hinged tailgate. When opened completely, the roof slides beneath the tailgate within 7 seconds, offering almost 5 square feet of open space above the passenger cabin.
The sliding roof is a standard feature with a new electrically-controlled sun-blind, which offers increased shading than that fitted previously. The glass roof and tailgate are made from special glass that deflects the sun's rays, protecting the occupants from UV radiation and excessive heat.
Inside the cabin, the new 911 sports the new Porsche Communication Management 3.0, with a touchscreen for the audio system as well as the optional hard-disk-drive navigation system. Also available are the new options of XM satellite radio with XM NavTraffic capability, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod port, USB port and auxiliary jack.
The second generation Porsche 911 Targa 4 models are expected to hit the streets in the UK, later in 2008.
