Punj Lloyd wins Rs232-crore contract for solar-based rural project

Engineering and construction major Punj Lloyd has secured a Bihar government contract for setting up 850 solar-powered water treatment plants, of an aggregate value of Rs232 crore, in the state.
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, to be implemented on a turnkey basis, has been awarded by the public health engineering department of the government of Bihar, the company said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The solar water treatment plants, designed and constructed by Punj Lloyd, will resolve the severe groundwater contamination, resulting in many types of diseases, including skin and lung cancer, the company said in a release.
The scope of work includes design, construction and commissioning of 850 completely solar powered water treatment plants across the state.
Punj Lloyd Group's renewable energy arm, Punj Lloyd Delta Renewables will execute the contract.
"We are extremely proud of this development having only recently launched into the solar utility space. This, being the first mega project of this scale for solar water treatment in the country, is a major breakthrough for the company.
