Rail budget: Prabhu resists temptation of launching new trains
26 Feb 2015
Showing a restraint perhaps unprecedented among India's railway ministers, Suresh Prabhu, while holding passenger fares at the current level in the 2015-16 railway budget, also announced that no new trains were planned.
Previous railways ministers have almost invariably announced new trains, especially for their constituencies or states. Prabhu, whose budget is widely considered to have been mentored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, has resisted this temptation, even while stressing better amenities on existing trains.
