Railway's April-October revenue earnings up 8.31 per cent at Rs48,322 crore

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways, on an originating basis, rose 8.31 per cent during April-October 2009 and stood at Rs48,322.23 crore against Rs44,614.15 crore during the same period last year.
Total earnings from goods traffic increased 7.47 per cent to Rs32,452.79 crore during April-October 2009 from Rs30,197.30 crore during April-October 2008.
Total passenger revenue earnings rose 8.36 per cent during the first seven months of the current financial year (2009-10) to Rs13,626.74 crore from Rs12,575.06 crore during the same period last year.
The revenue earnings from other coaching increased 16.87 per cent to Rs1,317.72 crore during April-October 2009 compared with Rs1,127.54 crore during the same period last year.
The number of passenger booking stood at 4,318.23 million during April-October 2009 compared with 4,119.89 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.81 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-October 2009 were 2,216.08 million and 2,102.15 million, respectively, compared with 2,193.73 million and 1,926.16 million during the same period last year, an increase of 1.02 per cent and 9.14 per cent respectively.
