Railways' earnings up 14.49 per cent in April-November

The total earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during April–November 2008 rose to about Rs50,932 crore compared to Rs44,485 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 14.49 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs29,734 crore during April-November 2007 to Rs34,394 crore during April-November 2008, registering an increase of 15.67 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during the first eight months of the financial year 2008-09 were Rs14,441 crore compared to Rs12,869 crore during the same period last year, recording an increase of 12.21 per cent.
Revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs1,298 crore during April-November 2008 compared to Rs1,216 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 6.72 per cent.
The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs665 crore during April-November 2007 to Rs800 crore during April-November 2008, showing an increase of 20.17 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-November 2008 was 4,717 million compared to 4,431 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.47 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-November 2008 was 2,510 million and 2,207 million compared to 2,428 million and 2,002 million during the same period last year, an increase of 3.37 per cent and 10.22 per cent respectively.
