Kolkata: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly be introducing new currency notes with added security features. Newly designed too, will be brought out in the near future.
RBI, which is gearing up to ensure that the public get good quality notes that can be re-issued, is also stepping up its mechanism for collecting soiled notes.
It has been examining the feasibility of printing notes bearing extra elements of security, trying to eliminate the possibility of counterfeiting, said P K Biswas, executive director, RBI. It is also attempting to dispose soiled notes in a manner that does not harm the environment.
"The currency management that we practise is essentially management of the supply chain. The RBI has to make sure that users have what they require. For this, we are seeking ISO certification," he added.
