Reliance Jio makes all voice calls free as Trai ends inter-connect usage charges

Reliance Jio Infocomm has announced that from 1 January 2021 all voice calls made on its network will be completely free with the implementation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), Bill that ends interconnect usage charges (IUC) for all domestic voice calls.
The zero rate on domestic calls will apply to all smart phone connections using Jio data. All calls made from Jio to any network, anywhere in India from 1 January 2-21.
Reliance Jio had committed to revert off-net domestic voice-call charges to zero, as soon as IUC charges are abolished, Jio will once again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, starting 1 January 2021. On-net domestic voice calls have always been free on the Jio network.
Jio said it was forced to start charging customers for offnet voice calls in September 2019, when Trai extended the timeline for implementation of the Bill and keep the IUC regime beyond 1 January 2020. However, Jio managed to keep charges on offnet voice calls at a rate exactly equivalent to the applicable IUC charge.
