RIM’s Blackberry 10 launch to be delayed
16 Dec 2011
Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of Blackberry phones has announced that the launch of its new Blackberry 10 would be delayed.
There was also disappointment at the estimates of sales of between 11 and 12 million smartphones in the current Christmas quarter, down from 14.8 million in the same period last year.
RIM reported net income of $265 million for the quarter to 26 November, which was down from $911 million for the same period of 2010.
RIM shares were down over 6 per cent in after-hours trading.
The Blackberry 10 phones which were to hit the market in the first three months of 2012, would now not be available until late in the year according to RIM.
RIM blamed the unavailability of the advanced chips for the delay.
