This project will involve implementation of an automated mapping and facility management system. This is a breakthrough order in the electric and gas utility field for Rolta, which has already established its leadership in the telephone utility sector. This further reinforces the renewed thrust of the company in export of IT-enabled services.
RoltaNet, the company’s Internet service division, has already obtained the licence to provide Internet telephony service to RoltaNet members through voice-grade PC-to-PC telephony using high-speed Internet bandwidth. The agreement for providing Internet telephony was signed with the Indian government on 30 April 2002.
Rolta India has posted a net profit of Rs 311.97 million for the quarter ended 31 March 2002 as compared to Rs 307.04 million in the corresponding period last fiscal. The total income has increased from Rs 802.23 million in MQ-2001 to Rs 815.34 million in the quarter ended 31 March 2002.
The company has recently inaugurated an advanced engineering software and e-services centre in Atlanta, USA. This new building, spread over 26,000 sq ft, will be the new US headquarters of Rolta International Inc. This centre is expected to add thrust to the company’s business opportunities and will enable the company to aggressively address its customers. In order to further strengthen its presence on the American continent Rolta has recently set up Rolta Canada Ltd. Apart from this, steps are at an advanced stage for setting up a subsidiary in the UK.
RoltaNet is Mumbai’s leading ISP and is fully geared up to exploit the emerging opportunity of Internet telephony services as per the new policy. Last year Rolta had invested over $6 million in its overseas subsidiaries, including the formation of another subsidiary in Europe: Rolta Deutschland GMbH, Germany. The subsidiary in the UAE, Rolta Middle East, has been strategically moved to Dubai Internet City. These new initiatives are expected to add thrust to the company’s business opportunities in these geographies.
Further, Rolta is creating in Mumbai additional 2,50,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art facilities for providing world-class IT solutions and services in engineering and e-business environments. To augment its domain expertise the company added 450 technical professionals in 2001.
