The government has appointed S Gurumurthy, currently the editor of Tamil political weekly Thuglaq and co-convenor of RSS affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch and Satish Marathe, the patron of Sahakar Bharati an NGO furthering the co-operative moment in India as part-time directors on the board of the Reserve Bank of India.
The department of personnel and training (DoPT) issued their appointment notification after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved their names as recommended by the department of financial services, ministry of finance.
A press release issued by the government said both appointments, proposed by the department of financial services, were approved by the appointments committee of the cabinet.
S Gurumurthy is a chartered accountant and well-known political and economic writer while Satish Marathe is a “veteran in the cooperative sector”, with a strong background in the cooperative sector. He has been working in the cooperative sector for more than 40 years and is familiar with rural and agricultural sectors.
The latest appointments take the total government appointed directors on the RBI board to 10, the maximum permitted. Besides, the government also has two government officials on the board.
