Sigma-Aldrich to join Nasdaq-100 Index

New York: Sigma-Aldrich Corporation of St Louis, Missouri, will become a component of the Nasdaq-100 Index effective at the beginning of trading on 16 July 2002.
Sigma-Aldrich
will also be included in the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking
StockSM. Sigma-Aldrich Corporation will replace Immunex
Corporation, which is scheduled to be acquired by Amgen
Inc.
With a market capitalisation of over $3.2 billion, Sigma-Aldrich
Corporation is a life science and high-technology company.
Its biochemical and organic chemical products and kits
are used in scientific and genomic research, biotechnology,
pharmaceutical development, the diagnosis of disease and
chemical manufacturing. It has customers in life science
companies, university and government institutions, hospitals
and in industry.
The
Nasdaq-100 Index, launched in January 1985, is one of
the most widely followed benchmarks in the world. The
Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock represents ownership in
the Nasdaq-100 Trust. The trust holds a portfolio of equity
securities that compose the Nasdaq-100 Index and aims
to provide investment results that generally correspond
with its performance.
