Sleeping man gets severe burns from charging iPhone

A 32-year-old iPhone user, Wiley Day, said he fell asleep with his iPhone charging via an extension cord next to him in bed.
On waking up, on Thursday morning, he found that his dog-tag necklace had become entangled in a space between the extension cord and the charger.
Day told WAAY TV that he was jolted to the floor by the force of electricity, but was able to break the chain off his neck in time. "I kept yelling 'Jesus,' " he told WAAY.
He told the Washington Post that it was: "the eeriest, darkest, most demonic thing you could ever experience."
Day said he suffered second- and third-degree burns to his neck and hands.
On his Facebook page, Day said his current pain level is "only about a 2, but I don't know what's to come." He added that he was "most happy to be an example for those who were unaware of the dangers of charging electronics while sleeping."
According to commentators, what happened to Day was one example of the dangers of sleeping with a charging phone next to you. Phones had also been known to explode during the night.
According to Day his vision started to fade, and he felt as though he was looking through a peephole and could see only in black and white. He could however, finally, summon up the strength to remove the dog tag from his neck. On standing up he shouted out loud, "Oh my God, I think I just got electrocuted."
Day suffered extensive damage with skin and flesh both stripped off his neck, and his hands showing the pattern of the necklace that held the dog tag.
He had burnt his hands in the process of ripping the red hot metal off of his neck. Day was admitted to the hospital with second and third degree burns and was released after three days.
