Sony's S1, S2 tablets to be called Tablet S and Tablet P
02 Sep 2011
According to Sony its Android Honeycomb-based single and dual-screen tablets will be named Tablet S and Tablet P, and carry a price tag of €479 and €599. The company announced this at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin last week.
The two tablets until now known as the S1 and the S2 were first announced in April.
Like several other vendors of Android-based tablets, Sony is eyeing a piece of the growing tablet market at the expense of Apple's iPad.
Howard Stringer, the company's chairman, CEO and president said, the products would take the tablet sector to a new level.
He added that it was not who made it first that mattered, rather who made it better.
Sony is banking on content emerging as the differentiating factor in the tablet competition. The Tablet S and P would be available with both music and movie download services. According to the company's announcement at the IFA, it would gather all its content services under the Sony Entertainment Network brand.
The tablets would be integrated with other products from Sony and consumers, for instance, could use them as a remote control and show images on DLNA-compatible TV sets. Further the products have capability to stream music to wireless speakers.
