Sony to enter tablet market with 2 Android PCs
26 Apr 2011
Japanese electronics giant Sony today unveiled two new tablet PC models, making its entry into the hand-held PC market. Codenamed S1 and S2, the devices using Google's Android platform are expected to hit markets worldwide in the later part of the year.
The S-1 has a 9.4-inch display, two cameras and a curved-top, with an "off-center design" that allows extended viewing and is suitable for media use.
The S2 has foldable 5.5" dual display screens and sports a book-like design and can be folded on top of each other to fit into a pocket.
The two screens can also be combined to make a single large screen or for playing games with displaying control buttons on the other.
"This design is particularly relevant for reading digital books whose content is displayed on screen as two pages side-by side," a Sony official was quoted as saying.
Both S1 and S2 models use the Google Android 3.0 operating system, known as Honeycomb, which is optimised for devices with larger screen sizes.
