Spice Telecom rolls out voice SMS service in Punjab

New Delhi: Spice Telecom, Punjab's cellular operator, today announced the launch of 'voice SMS service' for subscribers across Punjab. The new value added voice SMS service, will make communication faster and more convenient for subscribers, as senders can record their messages instead of having to type and send an SMS.
Subscribers can save, forward, reply and send the message to multiple recipients just as with a normal text SMS. The service interface is available in three different languages — English, Hindi and Punjabi. The sender can also schedule the voice SMS to be delivered at a future date and time to coincide with special occasions such as birthdays, and anniversaries.
Spice network covers over 205 cities and towns in Punjab, covering 95 per cent of Punjab's urban area. Its range covers over 3,250 km including connectivity on the national highway and the Grand Trunk Road. Spice also has the highest international roaming coverage involving tie-ups with over 419 international operators across 200 countries
To use the service, subscribers have to dial 666 followed by the recipient's ten-digit mobile number and record the message. The recipient receives a text SMS from the sender's number giving him the details of the voice SMS, which can be retrieved by dialling 6666
According to Mukul Khanna, assistant vice president, marketing, Spice Telecom, Punjab, "The launch of voice SMS, gives Spice subscribers freedom from typing long and tedious messages by simply recording and sending their message in their own voice. Messaging service is one of the fastest growing and the most popular value added service, with the launch of voice SMS; we hope to be able to provide our valued subscriber with a faster, economical and exciting mode of communication."
All Spice subscribers can access the voice SMS service free of cost till April 30, 2006. After which customers will need to subscribe to the monthly rental pack at Rs25, which allows 100 voice SMS of a maximum 30-second duration to be sent.
