Strike at Maruti’s Manesar completes 10th day

The strike at Maruti Suzuki's plant at Manesar in Haryana entered the 10th day today as talks between workers and management failed to resolve the deadlock over the creation of a second workers' union.
According to a senior Maruti Suzuki official, the strike was still on, even after it was banned and termed illegal by the Haryana government but the talks were still on and the management was ready to discuss all issues.
According to the official, the production halt would hit production to the extent of around 9,000 units, including 600 units on the first day of the strike 4 June.
The total loss has been estimated at around Rs280 crore.
According to Maruti Suzuki India chairman R C Bhargava, the company's stand was clear, the strike was illegal and even the Haryana government and the labour commission had said the same. He added that the company still continued to engage the workers in talks.
He added that the management had been given no notice or intimation, which made the strike illegal.
