Strikes have hit two of Toyota's Chinese parts suppliers this week that forced the company to stop production, the latest in a series of labour disputes that have hit Japanese carmakers in China since May.

Workers at Toyota Gosei (Tianjin) Co, a plastic parts factory of Toyota's affiliate Toyoda Gosei Co, located in the north eastern city of Tianjin walked out yesterday demanding better wages.

The plants employ more than 1,300 workers and are paid an average monthly wage of about 1,500 yuan ($220).

Workers at TG had planned to go on strike in early June. Yesterday about 50 workers resorted to strike demanding higher pay although the company said that it had agreed to raise workers wages by 17 per cent.

The Toyota Gosei plant is based in the Dongli Economic Development Area, where more than 30 Toyota suppliers also have their plants.

The strike comes just two days after 827 workers at another Toyota supplier Tianjin Star Light Rubber and Plastic Co. plant in Tanjin went on strike on 15 June, which was called off after the company agreed to review wages for its workers.
