Tata Capital appoints Shailendra Bhandari as head, private equity

Mumbai: Tata Capital has announced the appointment of former Centurion Bank of Punjab CEO and managing director Shailendra Bhandari as a part of its senior management team to head its private equity business, which the Tata Sons subsidiary has identified as a key vertical in its growth strategy.
A seasoned veteran in the financial services industry, Bhandari is a former Tata Administrative Services manager (1980), and was CEO of ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company (2000) and has held management positions with Citibank and HDFC Bank.
During his tenure as the head of new generation private sector bank, Centurion Bank, he led the bank through three mergers starting with the Bank of Punjab (See: Centurion Bank, Bank of Punjab to form Centurion Bank of Punjab) in 2005, followed by the merged entity's takeover of Lord Krishna bank in a stock swap deal in 2006 (See: Centurion Bank of Punjab and Lord Krishna Bank to merge) and finally its acquisition by HDFC Bank earlier this year (See: HDFC Bank approves merger share swap ratio of 1: 29 Centurion Bank of Punjab shares)
A graduate of IIM, Ahmedabad (1980), Bhandari holds a degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi.
