Tata Docomo launches new service Docomics
08 Jan 2010
The Tata Docomo-NTT Docomo collaboration has begun offering subscribers a new entertainment feature, Docomics.
Subscribers can read comics frame by frame on their mobile phones through a viewer application. The content can also be downloaded from a WAP site or through the application.
Until the introductory offer lasts, Tata Docomo customers will be charged only Rs15 per comic chapter, and there will be no data charges on the home network.
Docomics comes as a sequel to Tata Docomo's unique service m-Comics that enables consumers to read comics with special effects like character vibration, sounds and zooming text bubbles, and which downloads smoothly on a 2.5 Edge Network.
Gandhi Balasubramaniam, General Manager, Marketing, Tata Docomo-Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited, has said that Docomics combines ''the growing trend of entertainment, on-the-move, especially in a busy metropolis like Mumbai, with the increasing popularity of Marvel Comics and the world-famous Japanese Manga'' to connect with the young.
Murat O Karadeniz, executive advisor, global business division, NTT Docomo, says he looks forward to seeing Tata Docomo users enjoy sophisticated Manga service on Docomics.
Manga in Japanese means "whimsical pictures". In spite of a long, complex history related to Japanese art, throughout the world they have come to represent Japanese comics. A favourite with all ages in Japan, Manga forms a major chunk of the Japanese publishing industry, and is fast becoming a rage all over the world.
