Tata Motors likely to launch `Tiago ‘Plus’ in November: report
19 Aug 2016
Tat Motors is planning to roll out a more powerful version of its fast-selling Tiago hatchback after it recently announced a hike in the price of this popular model. The improved and more powerful 'performance-specific' Tiago Plus model is on the way, says a report by CarDekho.
Tata Motors is reported to have discontinued production of the Bolt Sport model that was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show and the recent Delhi Auto Expo as well as sales have not been too encouraging. The company is now looking to Tiago to boost sales, says the report.
The upgraded Tiago would be christened the Tata Tiago Plus. The report said the launch is expected to be announced this year itself, even though Tata Motors has refused to comment on the same.
The new Tiago could use the same engine, which was expected to arrive with the Bolt Sport. It produces 85PS with a 3-cylinder 'Revotron' petrol engine that could be remapped to produce up to 120PS, a significant jump in power. The vehicle is expected to compete with the currently available Fiat Abarth Punto and the soon to come, Baleno RS by Maruti Suzuki.
The Tiago Plus is expected to be powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol motor that could belt out a power of nearly 120bhp. It may also get a sporty body kit, including side skirts and body decals. Minor changes could also be made inside the cabin to make it look sportier. There could also be lowered suspensions and stiffer damping to ensure smooth drive.
Tata is also likely to launch the automated manual transmission (AMT) and crossover avatars of the Tiago in India to keep the momentum going. The Tiago currently records average sales of 4,000 units per month.
