Tata Motors ready to launch intra-city CV

TATA Motors is ready to launch its intra-city, sub-one tonne commercial vehicle. Called the Cub, the 700cc, two-cylinder, diesel engine vehicle will be rolled out in phases in South India, starting with its launch in Bangalore, due this week.
The Cub would facilitate Tata Motor's strategy of being present in every segment of commercial vehicles segment. Tata Motors, it is expected, expect the cub to drive volumes in the new segment, competing with three-wheeler goods carriers like the Ape from Piaggio and the Bajaj Tempo Minidor. Later a passenger carrier could also be developed on the same platform.
The Cub, designed in-house at the Engineering Research Centre, is part of the company's new products introduction programme. Positioned as the country's first mini truck, the vehicle is a low cost intra-city goods carrier for which Tata Motors has set up an independent line for manufacturing this vehicle its LCV plant at Pune.
The company expects to be able to sell between 30,000 and 50,000 units.
