Tata Motors sales up a record 79% In October

Tata Motors sold a record 23,600 cars in October 2020, beating the previous record of 13,169 units sold in October 2019 and showing a 79 per cent yer-on-year rise in volume, the highest for a carmaker in India.

The homegrown automaker has been making an impressive comeback over the past few months, on the back of a new breed of products based on Impact Design philosophy and new platforms, and higher quality standards.
Tata Motors reported a whopping 154 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicle sales to 18,583 units in August 2020 as the brand sold 7,316 units in August 2019 and the momentum continued last month as well. 
In September 2020, Tata Motors recorded sales of 21,200 units – the highest for the company in terms of numbers since October 2012. 
Tata Motors sold more than 6,000 units of the Tiago and Nexon recording increases of 98 per cent and 111 per cent, respectively, year-on-year. The Altroz also sold 5,952 units, showing a 20 per cent jump in sales volume.
Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) recorded a n 18.9 per cent increase in sales with 1,82,448 units sold in October 2020. The tally includes domestic sales of 1,66,825 units and 6,037 units for other OEMs (Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser).
The Alto and S-Presso forming the mini segment posted 28,462 units as against 28,537 units with near flat growth. The compact range comprising of Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire, and Tour S garnered 95,067 units with 26.6 per cent growth. MSIL also exported 9,586 units in October 2020.
Only 1,422 units of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz were sold last month with 40 per cent negative sales growth. The passenger UV range of Maruti Suzuki has models like Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, and XL6 and they registered a total of 25,396 last month as against 23,108 units with 9.9 per cent sales increase while the Eeco saw a total of 13,309 units.
Hyundai finished second with 56,606 units as against 50,010 in October 2019. The South Korean auto major reported a 13.2 per cent YoY growth in sales and its volumes are expected to increase further as the new generation i20’s launch is just around the corner. 
Mahindra & Mahindra ended up fifth with 18,600 units sold in October against 17,923 units with 4 per cent volume increase in the year-ago month. On 2 October, Mahindra introduced the second generation Thar and its bookings have crossed 15,000 units already. The company appears to be working on launching the next generation XUV500 and Scorpio in the first half of next year as well to further strengthen its domestic portfolio. Toyota ended up sixth by beating Renault, Honda, Ford, MG, Volkswagen, Skoda, Nissan and FCA.
