Tata Motors to conduct delivery audits on Nano

New Delhi: The Nano is on fire and that too literally. Three of the 600cc Nano delivered to customers in different parts of the country since September this year have reportedly developed a technical snag leading to small fires in the cars. The company has called two of the cars back for repairs.

Tata Motors has also decided to carry out an audit on the 7,500-odd Nanos that have been delivered till date. The company said its experts will check all the cars with customers, (particularly the car's electrical circuits) purely as a precautionary measure.

The company is not calling these check-ups a "recall", as recalls are made when customers detect a snag in a batch of vehicles implying a compromise in safety or product norms.

Customers of the Nano in Delhi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad have reported fires although there were no reports of injury or loss of life in any of the incidents.

The company also says it is not considering any re-engineering in the car despite the fact that the fires were caused by a common problem in all the cases. The cars were said to be stationary when the fires occurred.

The customer in Lucknow said the problem happened after the vehicle had covered about 1,000km and was due for servicing. He said his car was parked in the parking lot of a shopping complex when the incident occurred.
